i was reading an article on yahoo.com the link is (http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/thousands-spiders-blanket-Australian-farm-escaping-flood-165958059.html). the article was about how wolf spiders had taken over a place called wagga wagga in Australia. according to the article the spiders took over the land rather than stay in their own habitat because of the flooding. in the article it states " the Reuters reports that the flooding forced 8,000 people out of their homes. it was reported that for each temporarily displaced person , several types of spiders took over and ballooning usual for spiders to escape rising water. quoted from the passage, "Thankfully for local residents, the occupying arachnids are not likely to set up permanent residence, a la the 1977 William Shatner clunker Home of the spiders." according to the weather reports say the flood waters in Wagga Wagga have begun reducing. this means that locals will soon be returning to their homes and the wolf spiders will also be returning to their natural underground habitats.
And it turns out the spiders are actually doing quite a bit of good while setting up shop above ground. The spiders are feasting on mosquitoes and other insect populations that have boomed with the increased moisture brought about by the rising waters.
i think that this is very odd for spiders to do to human lands. how can theses 8,000 people come back if their homes have been transformed into a thousand spider ballooning festival. i feel like this would be a serious challenge once the flooding completely goes down. would the spiders stay or go back to their natural underground habitats.
